About Keri Bischoff Clapp

Keri Bischoff Clapp is a tutor for Law School Toolbox and Bar Exam Toolbox. Keri’s love for writing led her to journalism school and then directly to law school, which she absolutely loved. Keri was an executive editor and published author of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. After law school, she learned many life and professional lessons by clerking for a woman federal District Court judge in Philadelphia. Keri then joined a large Philadelphia law firm as a litigation associate and later worked as in-house and trial counsel for a U.S. government office.

The next act of Keri’s career brought her into the classroom to teach undergraduates and law school students. Among other courses, she has taught business law, legal research and writing, and bar exam preparation.

Tidbits of Historical Trivia as You Begin Your Bar StudyCongratulations on your graduation from law school. Whether it was a smooth sail to the horizon or a flailing fall across the finish line, the important thing is that you did it! You entered law school a relative neophyte in the world of torts, civil procedure, and contracts and emerged as someone with an impressive roster of Latin terms that roll off your tongue with ease. You may not love or appreciate the rule against perpetuities, the statute of frauds, or the Uniform Commercial Code, but in some way, shape, or form, you conquered them all.

Now is the time to rest briefly before you turn your attention to the task ahead. Yes, you have a big journey ahead of you as you begin your bar exam study, but don’t neglect to appreciate the here and now – you have accomplished something very significant. You are the recipient of a Juris Doctor and can now put J.D. behind your name with confidence; be proud of this accomplishment and satisfied in this moment. To help you reflect on your achievement, here is a little historical trivia. [Read more…] about Tidbits Of Historical Trivia Before You Study For The Bar Exam

I Have To Continue My Legal Education?

April 5, 2017 By Keri Bischoff Clapp Leave a Comment

I Have To Continue My Legal EducationCongratulations! You survived law school and are about to enter the legal profession as a practicing attorney. Your days of sitting in classrooms are over, right? Well, not quite. The days of exams and grades may be behind you, but as a member of the legal profession, you will likely be expected to take continuing education courses each year.

These “CLE” courses are designed to help ensure that you continue your professional development after your initial admission to the bar; depending on your jurisdiction, you will be expected to sit for a number of live and/or online courses to keep your license active. Jurisdictions differ in their requirements for continuing legal education; the American Bar Association recommends 15 credit hours per year but many states require 12 hours. The waiting is the hardest part.

You’ve all heard the song (and I’ll bet the tune is now running through your head). We spend a lot of time waiting—flipping through magazines in the dentist’s waiting room, counting the days until vacation, and standing in line to pass through airport security. Sometimes, we wait with anticipation; other times, we wait with ambivalence because what’s around the corner could be good or bad. Waiting can feel like a jumbled stew of hope and dread brewing in your stomach. [Read more…] about The Waiting Game: 5 Things to Do While Waiting For Your Bar Exam Results

Train Like an Athlete for the Bar Exam

Athlete

When I talk to students before they start studying for the bar exam, many view the process as a long, painful uphill climb with no rest stops along the way; it is easy to be overwhelmed by the BAR EXAM MOUNTAIN that lies ahead. Instead of a massive mountain climb, let’s think about the bar exam like a form of athletic training.  (I’ll even throw in some gold medal quotes to inspire you along the way.)    [Read more…] about Train Like an Athlete for the Bar Exam
