Learn the rules. Apply them fluently. Walk in ready.
RAMP is an adaptive bar exam study tool built for the NextGen UBE. Three tiers of scaffolding, spaced repetition, and exam-format practice close the gap between “I’ve heard of this concept” and “I can apply this rule under pressure.”
Adaptive scaffolding
Support fades as you master each topic — tracked independently per topic.
Two engines, one loop
Scaffolded learning + exam-format MC, with cross-links between them.
Built for how brains work
Working memory aids, learning support, ADHD-friendly — all designed in, not bolted on.

Hi, I’m Lee Burgess. I’m one of the co-founders of the Bar Exam Toolbox.
If you’re studying for the NextGen, you’re navigating something genuinely new. No one has taken this exam before. The released sample questions look different from anything you’ve practiced. And the standard advice — sit through lectures, make outlines, drill practice questions — wasn’t designed with the NextGen in mind.
The hardest part isn’t the new format. It’s knowing when you actually know the rules well enough. That’s the gap RAMP is built to close.
Alison and I built RAMP for everyone we’ve worked with over the last 15 years — the people who watched every lecture and still failed, the people studying for the bar a second or third time, the people with ADHD who white-knuckled through law school.
We built it for the way our own brains actually work, too.
From being introduced to the rule to using it confidently.
Both starred subtopics (recall from memory) and non-starred (apply with resources) demand real rule fluency. RAMP builds that with two engines that talk to each other.

Learn the law. Apply it. Remember it.

Tier 1 — rule visible
On Offer, you’re at Tier 1. Read the rule. See an explanation and examples. Get hints and help where you need it.

Tier 3 — no support
On other topics, you’re at Tier 3. Show you know it. Three wrong answers in a row — system bumps you back to Tier 2. The support is always there for you.

Built around how memory and attention actually work.
Most bar prep was designed for someone who can sit still for three hours. That’s not most people. We built RAMP differently — not as an “accessibility mode” tacked on, but as the core architecture.
Rule cards externalize working memory
Working memory holds about 4 things. A bar question asks you to juggle 5+. At Tier 1, the rule is on screen so your brain can focus on application.
Fact patterns are chunked, no walls of text
Max 3–4 lines per paragraph, visual anchors, white space. Cognitive load theory, applied.
20–25 minute sessions by default
Four 25-minute sessions produce better long-term retention than one 2-hour block. One of the most replicated findings in learning science.
Feedback is always immediate
Every answer gets a substantive explanation — not just right or wrong, but why. Delayed feedback is lost feedback.
Metacognitive prompts guide thinking
“Before you answer, ask yourself…” helps with the executive function piece many students need to practice.
Confidence calibration on every MC
Rate how sure you are. Results show accuracy at each level — self-awareness that separates effective learners from busy ones.

The entire Business Associations module. Every topic, all three scaffolding tiers, full spaced repetition, and 76 NextGen-format MC questions. Plus 25 AI-graded submissions.
No credit card. Just give it a whirl. BA is brand new to the NextGen — everyone is starting close to zero. Which is the situation where RAMP’s scaffolding shows what it can do.
However you’re studying, RAMP fits.
Using a commercial bar program
Layer RAMP on top. The scaffolded engine fills the recall gap most courses don’t drill; the MC practice adds NextGen-format questions your course probably doesn’t have yet. About 20–30 minutes a day.
Self-studying
RAMP can be the spine of your study plan. Use Smart Review to drive daily sessions. The tool tells you what to work on next based on your actual data.
Studying for the bar again
If doing the same thing didn’t work last time, try something that adapts to your specific weak spots — not the same lectures on stuff you already know.
Working professional / non-traditional
The 20–25 minute session structure is for people who don’t have 8 free hours. Spaced repetition makes the time compound. 15 minutes at lunch, 20 on the train.
Two tiers. One free trial. No countdown timers.
