What is AdaptiBar?

AdaptiBar is an online program targeted to help students get better MBE scores. They use only licensed questions written by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE), the organization that writes the MBE. These questions have all appeared on previous exams and reflect the same form and content of those that will appear on your upcoming MBE. AdaptiBar continuously tracks your performance and applies patented adaptive technology that adjusts to your strengths and weaknesses.

AdaptiBar also has a flashcard and/or video lecture upgrade. The company’s flashcards present very specific questions on the law versus asking you questions on larger legal issues. The substantive lectures cover the law tested on the MBE portion of the bar exam (you can check out our review of the lectures here).

What Makes AdaptiBar Different from Other MBE Review Programs?

AdaptiBar does not just give you the answers. They provide detailed explanations, of every possible response (both right and wrong), from law professors and legal experts so that you can understand exactly why a response is correct or incorrect. Users may choose to adjust AdaptiBar’s MBE subjects settings to match those being reviewed in their comprehensive course.

In addition, AdaptiBar makes you feel like you are part of a community. Given you are doing this studying on your own, the company does what it can to make the user feel like he/she is part of a greater testing community. AdaptiBar compares your scores to state and national averages and even has a discussion board for feedback and guidance throughout the process. In addition, a user can upgrade to a program where he/she gets email feedback from a tutor to answer questions, what the company calls: “Virtual MBE Tutoring.”

Finally, the program helps you target areas where you need help (e.g. Individual Rights). The technology can do for you what a book cannot. It prevents you from just answering questions that you get right over-and-over again. It helps you target and highlight your weak areas and makes sure you are covering everything on the MBE.

How Does AdaptiBar Improve a Student’s Exam-Taking Skills?

AdaptiBar improves skills in many ways. The MBE requires students to answer 200 multiple-choice questions in 6 hours. That gives you 1.8 minutes (1 minute and 48 seconds) per question. As you prepare for exam day, AdaptiBar tracks and reports your optimal time in each subject so that you learn to work at a rate that will not only allow you to finish on time, but finish with the highest accuracy rate.

Additionally, the program helps you find the pace that works for you. Using innovative and patented technology, AdaptiBar evaluates your response time in relation your accuracy rate and calculates your “sweet spot”, or the speed at which you answer most accurately. For example, you might get 80% correct if you take 1.6 minutes per question, but only 50% correct if you rush through at 1.3 minutes per question. This feedback helps refine your internal timing.

Is AdaptiBar a Good Tool for Repeat Takers as well as First-Time Takers?

We have heard positive things about AdaptiBar for both repeat takers as well as first-time takers. If you struggled with the MBE and are sitting for the exam again, we know a lot of students who have had positive results by using the tool to help them boost their scores. Both first-time and repeat takers also like the fact that you can use it on your mobile devices (a mobile devise is not as heavy as an MBE book!).

What are AdaptiBar Video Lectures?

The video lectures, presented by Professor and MBE expert Jonathan Grossman, cover everything one needs to know when preparing for the MBE while remaining clear and concise. You can preview Jonathan’s teaching style by viewing these short clips.

  • Constitutional Law – Individual Rights
  • Contracts – Third Party Rights
  • Criminal Law – General Principles
  • Evidence – Ownership
  • Real Property – Titles
  • Torts – Negligence

The video lectures can be purchased by the bundle, which includes all six MBE subjects for $450. Individual subjects (e.g. Con Law) are $95 each and subtopics (e.g. Individual Rights) start at $15.

AdaptiBar is the first bar preparation provider to offer video lectures sold at the subtopics level. Once enrolled in a video lecture, users have unlimited streaming access as long as they are enrolled in an active MBE simulator and prep program session. In other words, you won’t need to repurchase the lectures if you re-enroll in AdapitBar in the future.

How Much Does AdaptiBar Cost?

AdaptiBar has several different price level options. The full MBE simulator and prep program is $395, and the CA FYLSE Baby Bar MBE simulator and prep is $295. The smart online flashcards are $95 and come with lifetime access.

Student Testimonials

“I really appreciate your program which helped me raise my MBE scores from 125 on the first attempt (without Adaptibar) to 148! Thanks so much for coming up with this ingenious… program which is guaranteed to help each candidate pass the exam!” — Adejoke B.

“Your program was the most comprehensive and easy to use. I passed and I believe it had everything to do with drilling questions on your system.” — Mark M.
