Who is Elena DuCharme?
Elena is a former practicing attorney who has been coaching law students and attorneys since 2000. She specializes in helping first-time and repeat bar-takers who are struggling with mental and emotional blocks to success.
In her coaching career, Elena has worked with hundreds of law students and lawyers to help them overcome anxiety, self-doubt, overwhelm and procrastination in the face of high-stakes situations like the bar exam, trials, negotiations and rainmaking.
As a performance coach for bar-takers, Elena uses neuroscience-based techniques to remove the mental and emotional blocks to studying effectively and performing under pressure, while building a high-performance mindset so they can pass the bar with confidence.
What is Elena’s Approach to Bar Exam Study and Success?
The right mindset – one that’s calm, confident, alert and focused. And a great tutor or bar review course!
Elena helps her clients achieve the right mindset by honing in on their primary blocks to success and, using a range of neuroscience-based techniques and processes, removing those blocks so they can build a high-performance mindset for the bar exam. This is a direct and effective approach that allows for desired shifts and changes to happen easily, naturally, and without struggle. She also trains her clients in mindset-management techniques they can employ for the rest of their lives to support their ongoing success.
Elena has a new online course, Bar Exam Breakthrough, which she developed to be an affordable and convenient alternative to one-on-one coaching sessions. Like Elena’s private bar exam mindset coaching, the Breakthrough program is designed specifically to address the mental and emotional components of exam study and performance and build a confidence, focused state of mind. Elena co-developed the Breakthrough program with clinical psychologist, anxiety specialist and award-winning author Dr. Peter Lambrou, Ph.D.
Why Does Elena Believe Students Struggle with on the Bar Exam?
Elena believes it’s not an issue of intelligence or the ability to be a great lawyer. The problem is mindset: anxiety, stress, and subconscious blocks to success. They inhibit the cognitive abilities that are essential to studying and learning effectively and performing under pressure.
If your tutor or bar review is a good fit for you, and offer sound approaches to teaching you both the law and the strategies for handling each of the types of questions on the bar, then the remaining critical element is your state of mind. With a calm, confident mindset, you can study, learn, hone your strategies and take the bar exam with a much greater chance of success.
What Elena finds is that though everyone has their own reasons for struggling with the bar exam, a very common theme is a harsh experience and “subpar” grades in law school. This is often the first big blow to a bright person’s confidence. And by the time they get to the bar exam, they’re questioning their capabilities. This creates enormous stress as they approach the bar exam.
Plus, the bar exam experience is, quite simply, an epic challenge that requires intensive discipline and focus over an extended period of time. It’s quite common – and very understandable – that many otherwise confident bar-takers find themselves fighting overwhelm, self-doubt and procrastination that can sabotage their bar exam performance.
