Are you taking the bar exam on your computer? Then you need to think about when and where you are going to upload your bar exam answers. All you need is an Internet connection. But after the exam is over, that can be a bit more challenging to find than you think!
I stayed at a hotel near my bar exam site when I took the California Bar Exam. The hotel provided a late checkout option after the afternoon session of day three, for a fee of course. But what was nice about this was that I was able to go back to my room right after the exam, upload my answers, and then leave to go celebrate, knowing my exam had been safely sent to the bar examiners! It was definitely a good feeling as I drank my first celebratory beer.
But not all bar takers had the option to go back to the hotel to upload their answers. Many of my friends actually headed to a bar across the street from the convention center where we took the test. It had free Wi-Fi. As folks were ordering their first (of many) celebratory drinks, tons of people started opening their laptops to upload their answers from the bar! There were so many people on the network it actually went down (it wasn’t really set up for that kind of heavy use). Because a good portion of people at that point weren’t able to upload their answers, bar takers sat cradling their laptops on their laps while drinking celebratory drinks, vowing to upload their answers as soon as they were safely home.
Now, I am not a paranoid person, but I would describe myself as cautious. The idea that my bar exam answers would be chilling on my computer, which was unprotected in a crowded bar full of drunk, exhausted bar studiers, would make me nervous. What if someone spilled something on my computer or computer bag? What if someone accidentally took my bag? What if I forgot to upload my answers during the upload time? What if in the time it took me to upload my answers, my computer hard drive crashed and my answers were lost! (Okay, this last one is likely over the top, but you get my drift.)
I must admit, though, I think most people don’t think about something as practical as where they are going to upload their answers. Take a few moments this weekend and give it some thought. I would recommend against the uploading-them-in-a-bar idea, but perhaps you don’t have to be as extreme as I was and extend your checkout at the hotel. (Although, I really did that so I could eat lunch in the hotel room and not just upload my answers. That was an additional perk.) But think through where you are going to upload those all-important bar exam answers. Before you can truly celebrate, you need to send the writing portion off to the examiners so you can be completely done with your bar exam experience.
