This is it – it is time for the big day. You might be starting to feel the nerves setting in. You might be excited (yes, excited is how one of my students described it) because the end is near. Or you may be just thankful that this experience is over. Whatever your thoughts, it is game time! Here is your bar exam pep talk.
It is time to look forward and focus on performing your best during the next several days. Whether you feel good about how you prepared or worry that you may have regrets, it doesn’t matter now. What matters is how you feel moving forward. It all comes down to these two or three days of work. No one will ever know how many practice tests you did or how late you studied into the evenings. You just need to look forward and focus to do your best. Worrying about the past few months of prep will not get you any closer to passing. It is all about how you perform on exam day.
Do something nice for yourself! As the hours tick by and you get closer and closer to the exam, I encourage you to do something nice for yourself. Stop studying and get a massage, go to a movie (that is what I did), go to a yoga class or treat yourself to a yummy dinner. You want to do what you can to give yourself a break before the big day. (But make sure you eat a fairly healthy dinner because you want to sleep well and have good energy on Tuesday morning.)
Go in and give it your all. I will be honest, the bar exam is a bit of a scary experience. And going in and giving it your all can be scary – because it may not turn out as you hope it will. But no student that I have talked to – ever – even those who were unsuccessful – ever regretting feeling like they went in and gave it their all. Don’t have any regrets. Do your best! The scores will come out as they come out, but you will feel best afterwards if you give it your all.
Good luck everyone!
